Getting to know, presented by GE Appliances: Thomas Hasal

Getting to know - Thomas Hasal

His family hails from the Czech Republic, he was raised in Saskatchewan, and has risen up the Academy ranks since arriving in Vancouver in 2016.

In this week's edition of Getting to Know, presented by GE Appliances, we learn more about Thomas Hasal following the young goalkeeper's MLS debut.

Who was your favourite player growing up?

Petr Čech.

What or who has had the biggest impact on your life?

My grandfather. He introduced the game to me and he's always been my biggest supporter. He was a goalkeeper and he’s the biggest fan I know.

What's your go-to spot in Vancouver?

I enjoy hiking quite a bit. So when we get time off, I'll go wherever I can. Panorama Bridge is cool.

What's your favourite TV show?

Suits.

What's the website or app you visit the most?

Has to be Instagram.

What's your guilty pleasure?

Ice cream.

What's the biggest challenge you've had to go through?

I think the biggest challenge was moving away from home, but obviously it was worth it.

What are you most proud of?

My family. I'm proud of my mom. Just because of what she's done to come over here. She's a doctor and she came over to Canada from the Czech Republic and finished her residency when our family didn’t have anything else working, so she worked a lot when I was growing up.

What's your fondest memory?

Playing for the national team and signing with the Whitecaps.

Tell us something interesting or unique that most people wouldn't know about you?

I like to cook, I'll make a bunch of stuff like chicken parm. Both my parents come from the Czech Republic and I'm the first person in my family born in Canada.
