With the start of the 2023 eMLS season just around the corner, we sat down with Vancouver Whitecaps FC eMLS player Gordon "Fiddle" Thornsberry to get to know more about the guy behind the controller.
What’s your hometown (or country) known for?
Skyline Chili. We put chili on hotdogs and noodles.
What was the first video game you ever played?
NHL 2005! My dad kept telling me, “keep pressing A”.
What got you into FIFA?
My love for the sport of soccer got me into FIFA. I played both soccer and FIFA for most of my life.
Why do you like eSports?
The competition. People working to be the best at a specific craft has always been interesting to me.
There’s a zombie apocalypse and you can choose three eMLS players to help you survive it. Who are you picking?
Paulo Neto, Pabs, and Godfather. I still don’t think we'd survive with this group though.
What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
Even when luck seems to be against you, still look for reasons why that bad luck happened. You might be able to find that you put yourself in a bad position and can avoid that in the future.
How many hours a day do you practice gaming?
On a regular day during our competitive year, I usually practice around 2 hours a day.
What’s the strangest job you’ve ever had?
Playing video games for a living but the second one would be being a soccer referee because those are the only two jobs I’ve ever had!
What is your cellphone wallpaper?
I have two cellphone wallpapers. My lock screen is a picture of myself and my girlfriend, while my home screen is a picture I took at Old Trafford.
What’s something unique you’re really interested in?
Tracking of statistics/history about anything. Whether that’s tracking the history of my home fantasy football league or something else, it’s always been something that has intrigued me.
