VANCOUVER, BC – Don't look now, but Ryan Gauld is heating up.
The Vancouver Whitecaps FC captain has been named to the MLS Team of the Matchday for the fourth time this season after his two-goal performance in the 'Caps 2-1 victory at Sporting Kansas City on Matchday 17. Gauld has been named to the MLS Team of the Matchday 16 times since the start of the 2023 season.
Gauld has now scored four goals in his past three MLS appearances, bringing his season tally to seven goals and two assists. With his 10th game winning goal for Whitecaps FC, the Scotsman has now passed Lucas Cavallini for the second most in the club's MLS history.
Gauld was also named to the MLS Team of the Matchday in Matchday 7, Matchday 10, and Matchday 15. Forward Brian White (Matchday 5, Matchday 11), forward Fafà Picault (Matchday 7), midfielder Alessandro Schöpf (Matchday 8), wingback Ali Ahmed (Matchday 4), defender Ranko Veselinović (Matchday 8), and goalkeeper Yohei Takaoka (Matchday 8) have also been named to the Team of the Matchday this season.
