VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC midfielder Ryan Gauld and forward Fafà Picault have been named to the MLS Team of the Matchday following their performances in the 'Caps 3-2 home victory over Cascadia rivals Portland Timbers in front of 24,693 fans at BC Place on Matchday 7.
Gauld scored his first goal of the season less than two minutes into the match, beating former 'Caps goalkeeper Maxime Crépeau on his second attempt after having his first shot blocked.
For a second consecutive appearance, Picault had a goal and an assist. The Haitian international scored the second goal of the match with a laser in the 29th minute.
Then, with time winding down and the match tied 2-2. Picault found the ball in the box and cleverly backheeled it towards goal for substitute Ryan Raposo to tap in the winning goal.
Gauld and Picault become the third and fourth 'Caps player to be named to the MLS Team of the Matchday this season, joining forward Brian White (Matchday 5), and wingback Ali Ahmed (Matchday 4).
