Fireworks on the Fourth: Another dramatic finish in the Big D?

TOP RESULTS: Whitecaps FC and FC Dallas are back in action following strong results against the top teams in each conference. The 'Caps secured a road point against Supporters' Shield race leader Seattle Sounders FC last Saturday, while Dallas were winners at home against New England Revolution, who enter July atop the East. The 'Caps look to string consecutive results for the first time since the first two weeks of the season, against a Dallas side that just snapped a six-game winless streak.

FRONTLINE FIREWORKS: 'Caps striker Lucas Cavallini and winger Cristian Dajome have combined for six goals and three assists this season for the 'Caps, and each scored in their last outing against the Sounders. Cavallini ranks first and second in MLS in duels won and aerials won, respectively, while Dajome has already surpassed his 2020 goal total with four in just 10 games so far. Deiber Caicedo, who has pitched in a goal and an assist, ranks in the top 10 with 21 dribbles completed. Jáder Obrian, Dajome's former teammate at Deportes Tolima, is FC Dallas' key offseason acquisition at the winger position. 18-year old Homegrown forward Ricardo Pepi has started the last three matches for FC Dallas, collecting three goals in that span. Dajome (bench) and Pepi were both named to the MLS Team of the Week.

DRAMA IN THE BIG D: The 'Caps have not lost at Dallas in almost five years. Since suffering a 2-0 loss on July 31, 2016, the 'Caps have gone 1W-2D at Toyota Stadium, and each have been memorable. The 'Caps had a resounding 4-0 victory in 2017, then secured dramatic comeback 2-2 draws each of the following two years, with all of 'Caps goals coming after the 80th-minute mark. The 'Caps and the Toros did not meet in 2020.
