The ‘Caps are coming off of a huge 3-0 win over Canadian rivals Montreal Impact on the road last weekend. Now, after three matches away from home, the Blue and White look to carry momentum into Saturday’s match in front of their home fans at BC Place against Real Salt Lake – the highest scoring team in the league.
RSL currently sit in second-place in the Western Conference standings with 48 points, three points behind MLS Supporters Shield leaders New York Red Bulls. Whitecaps FC currently sit in sixth-place with 41 points, but with a game in hand on fifth-place Colorado Rapids who have 45 points.
Prior to Saturday’s match, local coaches from around the province will gather at BC Place to enjoy the 2013 Whitecaps FC Coaching Clinic presented by Tim Hortons. This year’s event will feature a Q&A with Whitecaps FC head coach Martin Rennie at the conclusion.
Fans will also have the opportunity to participate in the Canadian Cancer Society’s “My One Thing” campaign by writing down their one thing while purchasing 50/50 tickets at Saturday’s match. The My One Thing campaign promotes how one simple thing can make a difference in reducing the risk of cancer. Fans are encouraged to pledge their one thing and visit the Canadian Cancer Society booth at ‘Caps Kickoff or at Section 212 on the concourse. Joining the Canadian Cancer Society at the match will be a number of participants from Camp Goodtimes. Together, the group will partake in a special cheque presentation before kickoff.
The ‘Caps will also be welcoming special guests from this year’s Hope and Health event with the Vancouver Island Coast Salish community. Included will be a pre-match performance from the Snuneymuxw Dance Group on ‘Caps Kickoff.
Following Saturday’s match, Whitecaps FC have two remaining regular season home matches at BC Place. First up is a Cascadia Cup battle with rivals Portland Timbers on October 6, followed by the regular season finale at home to Colorado Rapids on October 27.
