GOALS! GOALS! GOALS!
Round 20 has the makings of one of the highest scoring weekends we've seen in quite awhile, especially with a number of the league’s top scorers coming off strong midweek contests. Many of the matches seem destined to become absolute barn burners, which is why this week we address how to maximize the exciting prospect of a weekend full of golazo’s.
While the more obvious players are Robbie Keane ($10.6m) and Camilo ($8.6m) We've selected our favourite player for this week and two lesser known but just as valuable forwards.
Marco Di Vaio ($9.3m), Montreal Impact – What would a goal scoring article be without the MLS top scoring player? Di Vaio has consistently put the ball where it belongs and we expect him to continue to do so at home against Chivas USA on Sunday. Showing no signs of slowing down and leading the league with 11 goals, we love his chances versus this favorable opponent. With the Impact scoring 8 goals over their last 3 matches, plenty of Montreal's roster players are good options moving forward.
Deshorn Brown ($6.0m), Colorado Rapids – Hidden way down there in the salary figures is Deshorn Brown. Brown is one of those items you find in a bargain bin. Turning into a more recent super sub for the Rapids, you have to wonder if he will receive more playing time after scoring 3 goals in the last 4 games. Their opponent D.C. United is by far the weakest team in the league on the road right now so you can expect a real bang for your buck with Brown.
Conor Casey ($7.9m), Philadelphia Union – Conor Casey is a total diamond in the rough. Managers didn't know what we had in him until we were forced to rely on him. I couldn't resist adding Conor Casey as a special 3rd pick, as with Jack McInerney ($8.6m) on international duty, Casey has truly stepped up. Four goals in as many games for the 31 year old. If you're cash strapped this is a great option, even with the Union facing a strong opponent on the road against Houston Dynamo, play him with confidence.
Team of the week (Round 20), New England Revolution – This should be called the VALUE of the week. After pointing out all the forwards we like, the Revolution are probably the most conservative all around team for this week, facing a less than threatening San Jose Earthquakes.
After the Vancouver Whitecaps derailed the Revolution's 5 game unbeaten streak, they've been searching to get back to form. Avoid Juan Agudelo ($7.9m) as his recent injury puts him out for a fair while. With that being said you need look no further than Diego Fagundez ($6.3m)! Remember him? He scored those 4 goals in a row that saw his value jump from $5.6 to where it is now. It’s time to put him back on your watchlist because he's been busy setting people up with 2 assists in his last 2 games. For his price he's great value, and with the loss of his partner Agudelo he'll get an even more dominant role.
While Jose Goncalves ($6.3m) is a stud at the back, we prefer Chris Tierney ($4.9m) as he brings more of an attacking potential with 3 assists on the year, along with a much friendlier salary.
That’s it for this round managers! Good luck and I hope you find some goals this weekend!
