Prices, planning and perseverance!
With the fantasy leagues' second wildcard window opening up in just over three weeks, and with many players attending the Gold Cup with their respective national sides, now is the time to start exercising some strategy. We should see prices of these players decrease by a large margin over the next few rounds as many won't see action for the entire month of July. This week we feature players who stand to benefit from the dreaded "Gold Cup Sell Off" to help you persevere through the coming weeks.
Javier Morales ($8.9m), Real Salt Lake
– Morales was owned by 10.7% of managers this past week, and that number will only continue to grow. A look at just a few players in the similar price point who will be going under national duty in July are Graham Zusi ($9.9m), Will Johnson ($8.9m), Landon Donovan ($10.5m), Brad Davis ($8.8m). That's a lot of "premium" calibre midfielders who will be sold and managers will be looking for an equal skilled replacement. Currently sitting third in league points means managers will flock to him and inflate his price-tag even higher.
Sebastien Le Toux ($7.9m), Philadelphia Union
– Like Morales, Le Toux will benefit significantly with the manager's spare salary. He has been dynamite for the Union and while teammate Jack McInerney ($9.0m) will depart for Gold Cup action after this round, that shouldn’t deter you. Le Toux has managed eighteen points in his last two games, both of which McInerney failed to find the back of the net.
Team Of The Week (Round 18), Vancouver Whitecaps FC
– Whitecaps are flying high after a couple of wins at home and they look to make it three in a row when they visit last place DC United.
The recent success of this team comes down to four key players. At the back Jordan Harvey ($4.5m) has found a scoring touch with a career high three goals in four matches. While it’s unlikely that will continue indefinitely for Harvey with his bargain price he's worth the gamble even if he receives just three or four fantasy points. With the ‘Caps playing the struggling DC United it’s possible that they could receive their second clean sheet of the season.
Russell Teibert ($5.6m) similar to the valuation of Harvey he's worth the money with five assists in just four matches. He's on fire of late and has secured his spot in the current starting eleven for the ‘Caps. Unfortunately though, with the Gold Cup fast approaching it will be the last time the Whitecaps have him for the better part of July.
The ‘Caps also feature back to back MLS players of the week, Kenny Miller ($7.8m) with three goals in four games and Camilo ($8.1m) five goals in three games. With two great options it’s really a coin-flip which comes out tops this week, but we’re banking on the Brazilian to help lead the ‘Caps to their second road win of the season.
