This weekend marks the kick off of phase two for the inaugural season of the EA SPORTS BC Soccer Premier League (BCSPL). At the conclusion of the second phase, the league winners from phase two of each division will play the league winners from phase one in a one-match league cup final.
“Following an exciting conclusion to phase one of our inaugural league season where teams competed for Provincial Cup finals, players participated in BC Soccer Provincial Teams, and a number of them then progressed into Whitecaps FC programming, clubs are looking forward to the second half of this season where they have plenty to play for,” said EA SPORTS BC Soccer Premier League president David Haber.
In anticipation of the restart of the BCSPL season, the league has launched a new logo (pictured below) designed by EA SPORTS, in collaboration with BC Soccer and Vancouver Whitecaps FC.
Phase two matches start this Saturday, September 15, at 9 a.m. PT with a U-17 boys match and a U-17 girls match, as Coquitlam Metro-Ford take on Mountain United FC in each encounter. Both matches take place at Coquitlam’s Town Centre Park. The full schedule can be found online at www.bcsoccerpremierleague.net.
After a very successful opening of phase one of the inaugural season, Whitecaps FC scouted a number of players from BCSPL clubs. Added to Whitecaps FC’s U-16 Residency team were William Diaz of Coquitlam Metro-Ford, Evan Gray of Mountain United FC, and Connor Hildebrandt and Vaggeli Boucas from Surrey United SC. Additionally, 15 players added to Whitecaps FC’s U-18 Girls Elite team this year previously played for BCSPL clubs.
“We’re elated with the progress that the BCSPL has already made so far,” said Whitecaps FC director of soccer development Dan Lenarduzzi. “The growth of the game in this province is something that we can all be very proud of and really excited about. We’re eagerly anticipating a stellar conclusion to this inaugural season.”
Make sure to also tune into Whitecaps FC Daily, hosted by Peter Schaad, from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. PT on TEAM 1410 radio for the BCSPL Feature Player of the Week on the Thursday show with ‘Caps colour man David Norman.
