I know it’s not Thursday – sorry – but it’s time for a throwback.
On this day in 2013, Kekuta Manneh scored a goal on the opening day of the 2013 MLS Player Combine. For Manneh, one of the youngest combine invitees and one of the few players who hadn’t played collegiately, it was a big one too.
“It was really important for me because I wasn’t a collegiate soccer player,” Manneh told whitecapsfc.com back in 2014. “Most people didn’t know who I was. That goal kind of put me out there and people probably started wondering, ‘Who is this kid?’”
The ‘Caps knew.
And they went on to select him at fourth overall after engineering a draft day trade with Toronto FC. It was Vancouver Whitecaps FC’s most memorable draft to date.
