David Norman named TEAM 1410 colour commentator for Whitecaps FC matches

David Norman - Canada

It was announced on Friday that Paul Dolan (@DolieTheGoalie) would be leaving his post as TEAM 1410's colour commentator for Whitecaps FC matches in order to become television analyst for Sportsnet's Whitecaps FC broadcasts. Dolan will be an excellent addition to the Sportsnet team, but the man replacing him on the radio will keep things running smoothly.

TEAM Radio quickly filled the gap by announcing on Whitecaps FC Daily (@WFCDaily) today that David Norman will be their new colour man alongside the voice of Whitecaps FC, the one and only Peter Schaad (@PeteSchaad). Norman won't be moving far, as he regularly appeared on TEAM Radio last season as a soccer analyst, mostly contributing during post-match and pre-match, but also occasionally filling in for Dolan. In fact, it was Norman who teamed with Schaad to call one of the 'Caps top moments in their inaugural Major League Soccer season - the Eric Hassli wonder-goal in Seattle.

"We have two guys here who have both played in the World Cup," said Schaad of the appointments of Dolan and Norman. "It's a win-win for everyone and I can't wait to get started."

Norman grew up playing soccer in Coquitlam, BC, and went on to play 17 years as a professional, starting with hometown club Vancouver Whitecaps of the North American Soccer League (1980 to 1984). He was also a teammate of Dolan's during the Vancouver 86ers days (1991 to 1996) and played for Canada in their only FIFA World Cup appearance in Mexico in 1986. He is one of only two Canadian players to play every minute of the eight World Cup qualifying games and every minute of Canada's three games at Mexico '86.

Since retiring from playing, Norman has been a key contributor to the soccer community through coaching and media. His connection to Whitecaps FC also remains strong, as his son, David Norman Jr., is part of the Whitecaps FC U-14 Residency program.
