Congratulations to Bobby Samra - the ‘Caps Community MVP

Community MVP

Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced today that the 2013 Community MVP is Bobby Samra and he will act as the ‘Caps representative in the MLS WORKS 2013 Community MVP contest. This league-wide contest puts each club representative in competition against one another for the chance to win a $10,000 donation to the charity of their choice and a trip to the AT&T MLS All-Star match.

Bobby is a role model that has tackled issues such as acceptance, drug abuse, and mental health head on while using soccer as a tool. He has coached soccer for over twenty five years and has worked with kids and adults. He has given countless hours to coaching and teaching not only soccer skills but life lessons. Through his various initiatives, Bobby has influenced the lives of many with his passion for soccer and giving back to the community.

Bobby Samra first started coaching right out of high school and most of his players were from inner city areas that had problems both at home and at school. Through soccer, he created a safe community for kids to turn to where they would be valued. He placed importance on creating a culture of “team” and has had success at every level he has coached. Bobby carried this attitude throughout his coaching career and undoubtedly leads by example.

His newest project involves him creating a program through his community soccer club for kids with mental health issues. This program is in its early stages but Bobby had no hesitation in tackling this project and organizing a connection between the Central City Soccer Club and the Surrey School District. He boasts all the characteristics of a Community MVP by always taking on initiatives and is never afraid of a challenge.

Whitecaps FC is proud to have Bobby Samra as the ‘Caps representative and will support him in his quest to become the 2013 MLS Community MVP. You can vote for Bobby online on the MLS works website starting tomorrow at www.mlssoccer.com/communitymvp. You can vote as many times as you want. Spread the word and help Bobby win this contest by voting tomorrow and throughout the duration of the contest which ends on July 12.
