1. Armed with a Cannon
Dallas right now have the best record in MLS and are on a five game unbeaten streak, so they will be brimming with confidence coming into this game.
WATCH: Big save by Cannon
I believe that Joe Cannon will be key to earning a result.
Being on the road, the ‘Caps will look to stay compact and make like difficult for Dallas. However, Schellas Hyndman’s team are on a roll and have a wealth of offensive talent who can create chances out of nothing.
With that in mind, Joe will no doubt need to be on top of his game and make at least one or two big saves at key moments. We’ve already seen him do it against San Jose, and I have complete faith that he’ll come up big again if needed.
2. Fed by Ferreira: Cut off the supply
WATCH: Ferreira pulls the strings
Dallas have great speed on the wings with players like Fabian Castillo and Jackson, and dangerous strikers like Blas Perez and Kenny Cooper. This has enabled them to score the most goals in MLS this season.
But the man that feeds these players and makes them tick is attacking midfielder David Ferrira. He is tied for the league lead in assists and is always looking to create something for his teammates when he is on the ball.
Ferreira will float around the field and pop up in areas which make him difficult to mark. He can spot a pass or beat you on the dribble, so trying to deny him the ball could be our best option. If not we will have to look to double team him and make sure he is not the player that is going to beat us.
3. Create turnovers, cause havoc
WATCH: Dallas concedes after turnover
There will be times in the game for the team to drop off, be compact, and challenge Dallas to break us down.
But there will be times that we can pressure them in the attacking third and force turnovers closer to goal.
You cannot always guarantee your passing game is going to create enough goal opportunities. But our attacking players are fast and hard working and can cause havoc for opposing defenders, and this can lead to good scoring chances.
