Yesterday, Monday, January 21, marked the ‘Caps first day back at training, and the start of a jam-packed preseason. However, despite the hustle and bustle of the day, ‘Caps goalkeeper Brad Knighton, captain Jay DeMerit, midfielder Matt Watson and striker Omar Salgado took some time to visit Ronald McDonald House.
Mascot Spike and club ambassador Carl Valentine joined the ‘Caps players last night to visit with a group of ill children and their families who are currently receiving treatment at B.C. Children’s Hospital. The house has been open since 1983 and has served as a temporary home for over 11,000 families that need a place to stay while receiving treatment in Vancouver.
During their visit, the ‘Caps were able to spend some quality time with three very special children. These children, all under the age of five, are currently battling cancer. With Spike on hand, the ‘Caps were able to bring a smile to their faces, make them laugh, and help them and their families forget about their worries, even if only for a short time.
“It is a good thing for the organization and us as players,” said Knighton. “To be able to get out in the community, help these kids out, and bring a smile to their faces is always something we are looking and striving to do.”
