Whitecaps FC U-19 and U-17 Residency teams learned their opponents for the 2018 Development Academy playoffs on Wednesday. The playoff group stage will run from June 18 to 22 at the SoCal Sports Complex in Oceanside, California.
Only the top team from each group will advance to the quarterfinals, which will also take place in San Diego after the group stage on June 25 - a change from past years when individual teams hosted quarterfinal matches. The winners of the quarterfinals will then advance to the final four in Kansas City, Missouri from July 8 to 10.
U-19
The 10th ranked U-19s, who finished in second place in the Northwest Division, will be in Group D alongside fifth ranked Pateadores, 21st ranked New England Revolution, and 30th ranked Crew SC Academy Wolves.
The 'Caps faced Pateadores on February 4 at the NSDC, twice coming from behind before falling 3-2 after a last-minute goal. Pateadores went on to win the Southwest Division, edging out Real Salt Lake and LA Galaxy.
New England is also a familiar opponent, as the 'Caps hosted the Revolution in a friendly match just last month, winning 1-0. The Revs finished in third place in the Northeast Division behind Montreal Impact and New York City FC.
This will be the first time this season the 'Caps face Crew SC Wolves, who earned a wildcard spot after finishing fifth in the Mid-America Division.
U-17
The 10th ranked U-17s - who also finished second in the Northwest Division - will play eighth ranked Philadelphia Union, 19th ranked Barca Academy, and 27th ranked Orlando City SC.
Philadelphia finished in second place in the Atlantic Division behind New Yord Red Bulls.
Barca is a team who the 'Caps just played as they wrapped-up the regular season. The Blue and White will be looking for revenge after a 1-0 defeat. Barca finished in fourth place in the Southwest Division, behind Real Salt Lake, Pateadores, and LA Galaxy.
Orlando - who the 'Caps first team are set to host at BC Place on June 9 - finished in fifth place in the Southeast Division, which was won by Atlanta United FC.
