This past weekend was an eventful one for David Egbo, the 'Caps first-round pick in this year's MLS SuperDraft.
On Saturday, Egbo opened his pro account in his first career start, while on loan to USL Championship side Phoenix Rising FC.
Egbo achieved these milestones in just his second appearance with the team. His first appearance with Phoenix came only a week earlier when he was substituted on in the second half.
The 22-year old forward scored the second goal of the game on Saturday, giving Phoenix a 2-0 lead in the 63rdminute. His goal ended up being the game winner as Phoenix Rising FC held on to win 2-1 against Sacramento Republic FC.
The ninth overall selection in the 2021 MLS SuperDraft celebrated his first pro goal by doing “The Vito” – a dance move he says was “just for the fun of it”.
“I just love that feeling and to get on the goal sheet again,” Egbo said following the match.
Egbo was loaned to Phoenix earlier this month. The loan goes through the end of the USL Championship season, including a recall option.
