PORTLAND, OR – Vancouver Whitecaps FC recorded a 1-1 draw against Cascadia rivals Portland Timbers at Providence Park this Sunday evening.
20-year-old Whitecaps FC BMO Academy product Isaac Boehmer made his first MLS start in net following his substitute appearance against FC Cincinnati on Wednesday.
Boehmer came up big in the 24th minute when he sprung to stop a fierce strike from midfielder Cristhian Paredes.
The ‘Caps would open the scoring nine minutes later, as Ryan Raposo served a cross in from the left side of the field to Brian White inside the box, who's diving header made it 1-0 in the 32nd minute of the match.
The second half saw a fast counter attack organized from Portland in the 61st minute of the match, Santiago Moreno fed a ball to Diego Chara inside the box, the opportunity was then blocked away by defender Jake Nerwinski.
As the match progressed, the home side continued to push on in the final third. A right footed strike from Claudio Bravo was followed by a strong reactionary save from Boehmer in the 76th minute.
The Timbers levelled the game in the 82nd minute. After a penalty kick was called, substitute Felipe Mora converted to make it 1-1.
The Blue & White return to BC Place this weekend for a big two game homestand. First up, the club will host its ninth annual Pride Match on Saturday, July 23 against Chicago Fire FC. Vancouver will then host Toronto FC in the 2022 Canadian Championship Final on Tuesday, July 26. Tickets for both matches are available at whitecapsfc.com/tickets.
