‘Caps Chronicle: Will Irish eyes be smiling Saturday?

'Caps Chronicle - March 16, 2012

WHITECAPS FC IN THE NEWS:

Vancouver Whitecaps FC are hoping the 'Luck of the Irish' might help bring their first ever road win as an MLS on St. Patrick's Day. But while they won't need any four-leaf clover to get the job done, “You won’t hear anyone in the Vancouver Whitecaps camp promising anything just yet, but there’s a pretty good chance the club could accomplish just that against Chivas USA at the Home Depot Center on Saturday.” (Martin MacMahon - Sportsnet)

While the first road win would make history for the club, two other 'Caps players are looking to write some history of their own. Midfielders Russell Teibert and Bryce Alderson are away training with Canada's U-23 squad down in Sunrise, Florida in preparation for next week’s CONCACAF men's Olympic qualifying tournament. And the Pot of Gold at the end of the rainbow for the team? One of two berths to the 2012 London Olympics. (Marc Weber - The Province)

Whitecaps FC head coach Martin Rennie has been teaching striker Eric Hassli how to use his noodle this season, in more ways than one. Read how the coach has helped the big striker overcome a mysterious aversion to heading due to knocking noggins as a youth. (Marc Weber - The Province)

Midfielder Gershon Koffie probably won't have an Irish kiss for former 'Caps teammate and mentor Pete Vagenas after Saturday’s Chivas match, but during the game it'll be a full-on battle in the clover. Coach Rennie believes Koffie has taken his abilities to the next level and hopes he'll come out on top in Saturday's match-up. (Martin MacMahon - whitecapsfc.com)
