He may have only come on for the last 11 minutes during Wednesday's match against Sporting Kansas City, but 18-year-old Omar Salgado sure made those minutes count as one reporter notes, “Just moments after stepping onto the field, Salgado's cross to Camilo led to Sebastien Le Toux’s consolation goal.” His switch from striker to the left wing in training and reserves matches is a move that suits the soccer prodigy just fine. “I enjoy it,” says Salgado. “It’s a great position for me to run at defenders and take people on, so I think I can make a bigger difference there than I would as a striker.” (Martin MacMahon – Sportsnet)
Playing two games in quick succession, especially after a defeat, can be taxing on a team. That’s why at tomorrow’s match against FC Dallas, one reporter commented that head coach Martin Rennie believes, “it's time for his players to show their character.” (Bruce Constantineau – Vancouver Sun)
One player in particular that’s shown a lot of character is last year’s team MVP Camilo. With the striker back to full fitness The Province’s Marc Weber believes that the Brazilian’s samba moves are exactly what’s needed to quick-step through FC Dallas backline. “He’s one of the best dribblers in the league,” said teammate Atiba Harris, “and he’s world-class on his deliveries.” (Marc Weber – The Province)
‘Caps midfielder Bryce Alderson might want to ask Camilo for some advice on weaving through traffic. The 17-year-old homegrown player confesses to currently trying to obtain his N (novice) driver’s permit in his blog entry for Goal.com. It appears his teammates like to tease him for waiting at the bus stop so if you happen upon him at one of the shelters take pity and offer him a lift. (Bryce Alderson – Goal.com)
With the Canadian women's national soccer team using Vancouver as a home base for their pre-Olympic residency camp, one reporter writes, “There could soon be a W-League future for some Canadian national team players because Herdman is negotiating with the Vancouver Whitecaps about the possibility of players suiting up for the W-League Caps in May and June, as long as it complements the residency camp.” (Bruce Contantineau – Vancouver Sun)
