‘Caps Chronicle: Left footed but right on track

'Caps Chronicle - April 12, 2012

WHITECAPS FC IN THE NEWS:

It appears that Omar Salgado could find himself in a new position, as head coach Martin Rennie has been playing the youthful prodigy on the left wing in recent training and reserve matches. (Marc Weber - The Province)

Speaking of exciting developments, earlier today Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced the latest addition to the club. The name is one that all Canadians are familiar with, none other than John Furling, former head of the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games, has joined the organization as the club’s executive chair. "It never dawned on me that this would be something that I'd be doing," one reporter quoted him as saying following today’s news conference. "I'm a season ticket holder, I love the game… to be involved in this way is great.” (Marc Weber – The Province)

Another veteran who’s eager to get to work is indefatigable Whitecaps FC goalkeeper Joe Cannon. Next Wednesday’s match against Sporting Kansas City can’t come soon enough for the ‘Caps keeper who is keen for the next challenge. “We have a great coaching staff that’s going to put together a great game plan,” Cannon told reporters. “But historically, I’d much prefer to get over a game quickly.” (Martin MacMahon – MLSsoccer.com)

Cannon’s talent in net is invaluable to the team, and he hopes it will become invaluable to the next generation of keepers as well having recently started a blog to help pass on his knowledge and experience to young soccer players. (Joe Cannon – Goalkeeping 101 & Beyond)
