‘Caps Chronicle: Feeling the love

'Caps Chronicle - Brody Huitema

WHITECAPS FC IN THE NEWS:

This Saturday's match against the Columbus Crew will be a homecoming of sorts for Vancouver Whitecaps FC midfielder Michael Nanchoff who originally hails from Ohio. And what every homecoming needs is a good party, as one reporter notes. “The traveling party known as Team Nanchoff – featuring deejays and Serbian sausages at a pre-game tailgate celebration – will be 500-plus strong when the Vancouver Whitecaps play the Columbus Crew in Ohio this weekend.” (Bruce Constantineau - Vancouver Sun)

It seems Nanchoff isn't the only member of Whitecaps FC feeling the love these days.

Residency standout Brody Huitema (pictured) is also getting his fair share of attention these days, with more than 70 universities expressing interest in having him come play soccer at their schools. Find out which high profile school the ‘Caps youngster is looking to attend. (Tyler Olsen, The Chilliwack Times)

Korean legend, and Whitecaps FC right fullback Young-Pyo Lee, meanwhile, was recognized for his ability to  shut down the attacking threat of FC Dallas' Brek Shea on the weekend by MLSsoccer.com who named him to their MLS Team of the Week. (Simon Borg - MLSsoccer.com)

Like music icon Michael Jackson, 'Caps superstar goalkeeper Joe Cannon is looking at the 'Man in the Mirror' in his latest blog entry where he discusses the importance of positive self-reflection and how to avoid the pitfalls of destructive thinking. (Joe Cannon - Goalkeeping 101 & Beyond)

From the blogosphere to the realm of social media, Whitecaps midfielder Davide Chiumiento (@DChiumiento) and defender Martín Bonjour (@MartinBonjour) have both taken to the Twitterverse which prompted a warm welcome by their fellow teammates.  You too can help them feel supported by giving the pair a follow! (Omar Salgado via Twitter)

Last week MLS saw a number of red cards and controversial calls throughout the league including FC Dallas's last defender Carlos Rodriguez receiving a yellow for pulling down ‘Caps striker Sebastian Le Toux with a clear break on goal. Major League Soccer analyst Simon (the Shaman) Borg seems to think that yellow was the correct call. After reviewing it in slow-motion in the MLSsoccer segment ‘Instant Replay’ what do you think? (Simon Borg - MLSsoccer.com)

Following a review of footage from the Dallas match on Saturday, the MLS Disciplinary Committee has chosen to suspend FC Dallas forward Blas Perez for one game and have fined him an undisclosed amount for endangering the safety of Jordan Harvey when he elbowed the 'Caps defender in the 29th minute of the April 21 game. It seems Liam Wilson from Clayburn Middle School may have a future in broadcasting. The hotshot young reporter was on hand to cover Whitecaps FC in their match against FC Dallas. Check out his YouTube video where he spends some time getting to know the ‘Caps supporters and even goes behind the scenes to the Whitecaps locker room to get the scoop from Sébastien Le Toux and Young-Pyo Lee. With four changes to last Saturday’s lineup, the ‘Caps showed exactly how much strength and depth the team has this season. “We have a very talented group, with young players, old players,” said striker Sébastien Le Toux. “We have 27 more games plus the Canadian [Championship], so it’s going to be a big, big year, and everyone needs to be ready.” (Martin MacMahon - whitecapsfc.com)

Whitecaps FC announced that Richard Grootscholten, Residency technical director and head coach will end his coaching responsibilities with the club later this week.
