‘Caps Chronicle: Eight is enough

'Caps Chronicle - 8

WHITECAPS FC IN THE NEWS:
It's exactly ‘8’ days until the season opener against Montreal Impact on March 10, at BC Place, so to add to the excitement we'll be doing a countdown themed ‘Caps Chronicle for each day leading up to First Kick. Let’s take a look at the number ‘8’.

The number ‘8’ is a significant one for Vancouver Whitecaps FC, not only was the club once known as the Vancouver 86ers, but Vancouver's bid for an MLS expansion franchise was officially submitted on October 15, 200’8’.

The club will be hoping to add to that history tomorrow on day ‘8’ of the Disney Pro Soccer Classic as Vancouver Whitecaps FC squares off against Canadian Major League Soccer (MLS) rivals Toronto FC in Orlando, Florida for the championship match. Fans from coast to coast can watch the game streamed live on TSN.ca at 5pm PT. TSN2 and TSN Mobile TV will also air the championship game immediately following the conclusion of the National Lacrosse League match-up featuring Washington Stealth @ Toronto Rock, beginning at 4 p.m. PT. (TSN)

One player that could be a difference-maker in tomorrow’s game is Michael Nanchoff. The Generation adidas midfielder and former University of Akron Zip was the eighth pick overall in last years MLS SuperDraft but missed the majority of last season while recovering from injury. He’s definitely made his presence felt with his return to form, telling one reporter, "I feel very good, I feel confident, and a lot of that has to do with the coaches. They've given me positive, encouraging comments all the time, so it's helpful." (Marc Weber – The Province)

Newly signed Etienne Barbara wears the number ‘8’ jersey for the ‘Caps and is extremely happy to be back under head coach Martin Rennie after spending their last two years together at the Carolina Railhawks. Another player expected to shine under Rennie’s tutelage is Davide Chiumiento whom one reporter described as, “one of Major League Soccer’s most talented individuals.” (Martin MacMahon – MLSsoccer.com)
