The final Vancouver Whitecaps FC preseason matchups are upon us this weekend as anticipation for next Saturday's season opener against Montreal Impact continues to build. Today the team is in Orlando, Florida for the Disney Pro Soccer Classic and is hoping the team magic that has helped them win all three of their games by a combined ‘7’-0 will lead them to a championship victory against rivals Toronto FC. The 'Caps last faced Toronto when they were edged out of winning the Canadian Championship, so you can expect a heated affair. The match will be streamed live on TSN.ca at 5pm, and aired in its entirety on TSN2 directly following the National Lacrosse League match-up featuring Washington Stealth @ Toronto Rock. Number '7', Sebastian Le Toux, has been instrumental in getting the team to the Disney championship leading the team in points with three goals and one assist (‘7’ points) so far. That fares just fine with fellow Frenchman Eric Hassli who recently told reporters he’s become addicted to winning. (Martin MacMahon – MLSsoccer.com)
Le Toux’s lone assist came while setting up newcomer Darren Mattocks. The rookie’s blinding speed helped earn him a record 39 goals in 47 matches last year with the Akron Zips. Since moving to Major League Soccer this year he has baffled defenders in preseason and caused a few of his teammates to make some interesting comparisons. “I call him Usain Bolt, because he’s so fast,” said teammate Eric Hassli. The final preseason match for the 'Caps comes this Sunday as Martin Rennie's squad faces his former team, Carolina RailHawks. The game will also be a reunion for 27-year old English midfielder Mat Watson who spent 3 seasons with Carolina. Canada's women's national team continued their unbeaten streak at the 2012 Cyprus Cup. Like their compatriots in Vancouver they've scored ‘7’ goals in their two group stage matches thus far, steamrolling Scotland by a score of 5-1 and defeating Italy yesterday 2-1. Tomorrow they finish off the group stage when they take on 14th world ranked Holland. (Canadian Soccer Association)
