VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC kicked off their home schedule at BC Place for the first time since 2020 with a 0-0 draw against defending MLS Cup champions New York City FC.

NYCFC was on the attack early in the first half, with Thomas Hasal coming up with several huge saves. But the 'Caps responded with a good opportunity of their own in the first 20 minutes as Ryan Gauld played Déiber Caicedo into a breakway, but the defence eventually caught up to block his shot.

Minutes later Gauld crossed into Lucas Cavallini, who had a header saved by goalkeeper Sean Johnson.

On 27 minutes the 'Caps put the visitors under heavy pressure, forcing Johnson to deflect a cross out of danger before Cristián Gutiérrez struck a shot inches over the crossbar.

Both teams pushed in the second half, with Hasal coming up with one more massive save to preserve a point for the 'Caps against the champs.

Whitecaps FC next turn their attention to a road match at Houston Dynamo FC next Saturday, March 12. Kickoff will be at 3:30 p.m. PT live on TSN and AM730 radio. The next home match will be on Saturday, April 2 against Sporting Kansas City at 5 p.m. PT. For tickets go to whitecapsfc.com/tickets.
