I had the pleasure of spending a couple of days in beautiful Nanaimo, BC, on Vancouver Island and being hosted by members of the Kw’umut Lelum community in what was a truly amazing event.
Vancouver Whitecaps FC head coach Martin Rennie spoke to the gathering on our first night, and three of us had the honour of being blessed with the gift of a ceremonial blanket.
The following day we held a camp for over 200 enthusiastic kids. With a number of ‘Caps players in attendance, and of course our mascot Spike, the day proved to be a complete success for everyone involved.
To cap off the evening we had a showing of Rise & Shine, the amazing documentary on Whitecaps FC captain Jay DeMerit. A perfect ending to a great event.
It was a fantastic experience and fun was had by all as Whitecaps FC continue to visit with our communities throughout British Columbia.
