Canada WNT draw top-ranked USA at sold-out BC Place in international friendly

VANCOUVER, BC - The Canadian women's national team battled top-ranked United States to a 1-1 draw in front of a sellout crowd of 28,017 fans at BC Place on Thursday evening.

Adriana Leon scored a second-half equalizer for Canada to the delight of the record crowd, the largest for a women's soccer friendly in British Columbia.

16-year-old Whitecaps FC Girls Elite Regional EXCEL striker Jordyn Huitema came on as a late substitute for her fifth senior international appearance for Canada.

Alex Morgan opened the scoring for the Americans in the 30th minute, before Leon drew Canada level just before the hour-mark, thanks to a pressing attack from home side.

The Canadians looked intent on stealing the win late, with Huitema joining the attack in the final minutes, but the two sides had to settle for a highly-entertaining and tightly-contested draw.

The two rivals meet again on Sunday at Avaya Stadium in San Jose, California.
