Canada took home the gold medal at the Olympics with a penalty kick shootout win over Sweden on Friday. Whitecaps FC Girls Elite REX grad Julia Grosso from Vancouver, BC scored the winning penalty kick.
The triple Js all came on for Canada - Julia Grosso, Jordyn Huitema, and Jayde Riviere. The trio were part of the Whitecaps FC Girls Elite REX program in partnership with BC Soccer. Grosso came on halftime for Quinn to help change the match, Huitema replaced Christine Sinclair late in regulation, and Riviere came on for Allysha Chapman in extra time.
Sweden went up 1-0 going into halftime, but Canada equalized in the second half. After Sinclair was taken down in the box, Jessie Fleming converted to make it 1-1.
