Canada kicked off Olympic qualifying in Guadalajara, Mexico on Friday with a 2-0 win over El Salvador. All five Whitecaps FC players on the roster played a part in the victory.
Derek Cornelius wore the captain's armband for the Red & White while starting at centre back. Whitecaps FC BMO Academy System Homegrown midfielders Michael Baldisimo and Patrick Metcalfe started in front of him, while Theo Bair and Ryan Raposo came in as second half substitutes.
The first goal came on 17 minutes from Tajon Buchanan of the New England Revolution. Metcalfe started the play, bringing it up through midfield before Montreal's Ballou Tabla fed Buchanan for the finish.
Buchanan then made it 2-0 on 21 minutes, with Cornelius getting the assist by laying it off to him at the top of the box.
Next up for Canada is a match against Haiti on Monday, March 22 at 3 p.m. PT live on OneSoccer.
