VANCOUVER, BC - Vancouver Whitecaps FC confirmed today that striker Caleb Clarke underwent successful surgery in Vancouver to repair a ruptured quadriceps muscle on Friday, May 30.
Clarke, who has been playing overseas with German Bundesliga club FC Augsburg II on a year-long loan since July 9, 2013, suffered the injury while training with Augsburg. Prior to the injury, Clarke had been scheduled to join Canada's men’s national team at their recent training camp overseas, including friendlies with Bulgaria and Moldova.
“Caleb is a talented young man with a bright future ahead of him with our club,” said Whitecaps FC head coach Carl Robinson. “The procedure went well and he should make a full recovery in due time.”
The 20-year-old Richmond, BC, native made his Whitecaps FC MLS debut on August 15, 2012, coming on as second half substitute against FC Dallas. Clarke also made a substitute appearance against Chivas USA on October 3, 2012. The Homegrown striker has been with the organization since joining Whitecaps FC Residency in 2009, making him the second longest tenured player at the club.
Clarke is currently rehabbing in Vancouver under the supervision of the club's sports medicine & science team.
