VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC forward Brian White and attacking midfielder Ryan Gauld have been named to the MLS Team of the Matchday following their performances in the club's 4-1 away victory over St. Louis CITY SC on Matchday 26.
White notched a brace during the match, scoring his 50th and 51st goals across all competitions for Whitecaps FC. The forward has now scored 12 goals this season, with seven of those coming in the last four MLS matches. White also recorded one successful duel, one big chance created, one block, and one clearance in the win against St. Louis.
Meanwhile, Gauld recorded two assists on the night, marking the 17th time he's tallied multiple goal contributions in one game during his Whitecaps FC career. Gauld also recorded six chances created, nine recoveries, five successful duels, three big chances created, two successful dribbles, one shot on target, one successful tackles, one clearance, and 81% passing accuracy. In addition, the Scotsman has now tallied 18 goal contributions in his last 19 MLS appearances, with 13 of those coming in the last 10 matches.
This is the eighth time Gauld has been named to the squad (Matchday 7, Matchday 10, Matchday 15, Matchday 17, Matchday 18, Matchday 20, Matchday 24) and the fourth time White has earned a spot this season (Matchday 5, Matchday 11, Matchday 23). In total, eight different players have earned MLS Team of the Matchday selections this season, including goalkeeper Yohei Takaoka (Matchday 8, Matchday 24), forward Fafà Picault (Matchday 7), midfielder Alessandro Schöpf (Matchday 8), wingback Ali Ahmed (Matchday 4), defender Mathías Laborda (Matchday 24), and defender Ranko Veselinović (Matchday 8).
