Tomorrow night, November 15, Bob Lenarduzzi and his son Ryan will be participating in Covenant House Vancouver's first annual Sleep Out. Along with 18 top executives from Vancouver, BC, Bob and Ryan will be sleeping on the streets of Vancouver with nothing more than a cardboard box, sleeping bag and toque. Though they will be sheltered from the rain, they will not be sheltered from the icy temperatures that plague the many homeless youth every night.
The Sleep Out is a North American wide fundraiser by Covenant House youth crisis centre that seeks to raise funds for youth homelessness in the local community. Covenant House Vancouver and its Sleep Out participants have already raised over $100,000 for this year’s event. Covenant House Vancouver houses 54 beds and has a 75% success rate of helping homeless youth get back on their feet and back into the community.
When asked about how he feels about spending the night on the street, Whitecaps FC president Bob Lenarduzzi says “ this pales in comparison to what homeless youth have to go through, so the more awareness, and more funding we can generate for the youth down on their luck and on the street, the better”.
