VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC striker Simon Becher has been named to the MLS Team of the Matchday for his performance in a 1-1 road draw at Minnesota United FC in Matchday 5.
The 23-year-old, who was signed to an MLS contract from Whitecaps FC 2 (WFC2), scored a late tying goal in the 98th minute to earn the 'Caps a point away from home.
With the goal, Becher has now scored in his first three appearances with Whitecaps FC. Last year, on a short-term agreement from MLS NEXT Pro, he scored another late tying goal in his MLS debut against Houston Dynamo FC at BC Place.
Earlier this season, he also came on to score in the second half of the Concacaf Champions League second leg against Real C.D. España.
The 'Caps now return home for three huge home matches at BC Place. First up is an all-Canadian battle against CF Montreal this coming Saturday, April 1. Then on Wednesday, April 5, Whitecaps FC host defending MLS Cup champions LAFC in the quarterfinals of the Concacaf Champions League. Finally, on Saturday, April 8 it's a Cascadia derby with Portland Timbers in the second annual Vaisakhi Night. For ticket information, visit whitecapsfc.com/tickets.
