Lass Bangoura is through to the Round of 16 with Guinea at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
Bangoura came on as a second-half sub in each of Guinea’s final two group stage matches – a 1-0 defeat vs. Nigeria and 2-0 win over Burundi, playing 19 and 27 minutes respectively.
Guinea finished third in Group B with four points from three matches, but advanced to the knockout round regardless as the top-ranked third-place side. They will now face Algeria in the Round of 16 on Sunday in Cairo, Egypt.
Should they win, Guinea would face either Mali or Ivory Coast in the quarter-final.
Bangoura, who is on a one-year loan with an option to purchase from Spanish La Liga club Rayo Vallecano de Madrid S.A.D., has one goal and one assist in 12 appearances with Whitecaps FC so far this season.
