Major League Soccer revealed today the ballot for the 2017 Landon Donovan MLS MVP award, which includes up to three nominees from each club. The Vancouver Whitecaps FC players on the ballot are defender Kendall Waston, attacking midfielder Yordy Reyna, and striker Fredy Montero.
Players, technical staffers (technical directors, GMs and coaches) and a select group of national and regional media will begin voting for each of the awards on Tuesday, October 17. Each voting group, representing one-third of the total vote, will have until Monday, October 23 at 2 p.m. PT to submit their votes. Finalists (three per award) will be announced on Tuesday, October 31.

KENDALL WASTON
Waston took on the role of Whitecaps FC captain in 2017 - and he has not disappointed. The Costa Rican centre back has been rock solid in the middle of defence, leading the team in clearances, interceptions, and blocks. His 99 headed clearances are tops in MLS. Waston, who has earned four MLS Team of the Week selections, has also contributed offensively with three goals and one assist. The 'Caps are 13W-8L-2D with Waston in the starting lineup.
YORDY REYNA
Reyna has made a massive impact for Whitecaps FC after recovering from a broken foot suffered in the preseason. The Peruvian attacking midfielder has five goals, all game-winners, and three assists in just nine starts and 16 appearances. Reyna's return to the lineup has coincided with Vancouver's rise up the Western Conference table. The 'Caps are 5W-1L-3D with him in the starting lineup.
FREDY MONTERO
Montero was brought in to score goals – and create them – and that’s exactly what he’s done. The Colombian striker has a team-leading 13 goals on the season, which matches his previous career-high in MLS. He also has six assists, tied for second-best on the team. In total, Montero has played a direct part in 40 per cent of Vancouver’s goals on the season.
