Ali Ahmed called up to Canada's men's national team for 2024 Copa América Pre-Camp

VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC midfielder Ali Ahmed has been called up to Canada's men's national team for the side's 2024 Copa América pre-camp. Canada's official 26-player squad for the 2024 Copa América will be announced on Saturday, June 15.

Ahmed will be unavailable for the Blue and White's MLS regular season away match against Eastern Conference side New England Revolution on June 15.

A product of the club's MLS NEXT Pro side Whitecaps FC 2 (WFC2), Ahmed received his first call-up to Canada’s men’s national team for the 2023 Concacaf Gold Cup, making his debut as a starter in the opening group stage match against Guadeloupe. In total, Ahmed started all four of Canada’s matches at the tournament.

So far this season, Ahmed has started 12 of his 18 appearances across all competitions for the 'Caps, recording a goal and an assist.

All-time, Ahmed has made 29 starts and 50 appearances since joining Whitecaps FC in April 2022, adding four goals as well as three assists.

2024 COPA AMÉRICA
The 2024 Copa América marks the 48th edition of the tournament, overseen by CONMEBOL, the governing body for South American football. This quadrennial event will take place in the United States in collaboration with Concacaf. Canada have been drawn in Group A and will play 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar™ winners Argentina in the opening match of the tournament on Thursday, June 20 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia. Canada’s remaining group games will be against two-time tournament winners Peru on June 25 at Children’s Mercy Park in Kansas City, Kansas and two-time tournament winners Chile on June 29 at INTER&Co Stadium in Orlando, Florida.
