VANCOUVER, BC - Whitecaps FC defender Ali Adnan, and head coach Marc Dos Santos have both earned honours on the MLS Team of the Week after strong performances against New York Red Bulls and FC Dallas this past week.
Adnan earns the league honour after splitting two defenders and scoring a stunner into the upper right hand corner during Saturday night’s win against FC Dallas. The Iraqi national’s first goal in MLS play has been nominated for MLS Goal of the Week, where it sits as the early favourite, garnering over 60% of the vote.
Dos Santos is gracing the TOTW for the first time this season. Having celebrated his birthday on Sunday, the 42-year old’s squad played three matches in eight days, going undefeated in that stretch.
The ‘Caps will look to continue their good form against their visiting Canadian rivals, Toronto FC on Friday night at BC Place. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. PT. The club will be commemorating the 40th anniversary of the 1979 NASL Soccer Bowl championship team. 16 members of the ’79 team will be in attendance and recognized prior to kickoff.
