At the adidas match night, all donated items will help support the VI Coast Salish Hope and Health benefitting the Vancouver Island Coast Salish community. Whitecaps FC and adidas are committed to making an impact in the community by supporting initiatives that help youth build better lives, especially through the beautiful game of soccer.
Gently-used boots will be collected at ‘Caps Kickoff from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. PT. In exchange for old soccer cleats, all fans that donate will receive 40% off their new pair of adidas boots when shopping online at shopadidas.ca, and donors will also receive entry into a raffle to win one of four pairs of boots autographed by Pedro Morales, Russell Teibert, Darren Mattocks, and David Ousted. The four raffle winners will be located in their seats during the match to receive their prize.
All donations will benefit the children and youth associated with the Hope and Health Initiative, which is a shared initiative between Vancouver Island-based Kw’umut Lelum and Lalum’utul' Smun’eem Child and Family Service Agencies. Hope and Health aims to inspire active living and personal leadership amongst the children and youth in foster care through soccer. The annual event helps to inspire and create opportunities for Coast Salish youth and their families.
William Yoachim, executive director of Kw’umut Lelum Child and Family Services and founder of the Hope and Health event, was recently named theMLS WORKS Community MVP.
Earlier this year, Whitecaps FC participated in the third annual two-day Hope and Health Soccer Extravaganza in Nanaimo, BC. The event drew more than 1,000 community members, and began with an “Evening of Champions” at Nanaimo Port Theatre, which included keynote speeches from Vancouver Whitecaps FC head coach Carl Robinson, club ambassador Carl Valentine, and defenders Steven Beitashour and Kekuta Manneh. Following the speeches was a live acoustic performance by Whitecaps FC left back Jordan Harvey and his fiancée Kim Caldwell. Day two followed with a camp for 400 First Nations children, teaching them skills and drills through coaching and goalkeeper clinics led by Whitecaps FC players.
