With beautiful weather all weekend, Vancouver Whitecaps FC held the first ever boys edition of the Whitecaps FC College Showcase at Newton Athletic Park, hosted by Central City Breakers and Surrey FC.
“We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect setting for the showcase,” said Dan Lenarduzzi, Whitecaps FC director of soccer development. “It was a great opportunity to get a great number of teams, coaches, scouts, and other members of the soccer community together at once. Feedback from everyone involved has been fantastic, so all-in-all it was a very successful event.”
The action kicked off on Friday with a full slate of EA SPORTS BC Soccer Premier League matches, as well as matches featuring visiting clubs Prince George Kodiaks, Alberta-based clubs National Sports Development SC (NSDSC), Calgary Foothills FC, Calgary South West United (SWU), Calgary Villains FC, and Internazionale SC, as well Manitoba clubs Bonvital Soccer Club and Portage Trail Soccer Club, Nova Scotia’s Halifax City Soccer Club and American club Tynecastle FC from Washington. Complete results from the weekend can be found HERE.
Also part of the weekend were several matches featuring Whitecaps FC Residency teams, including an unbeaten triple header on Saturday. The U-14 Residency squad won all three of their matches on the weekend, defeating Calgary SWU on Friday, Surrey United on Saturday, and NSDSC Celtic on Sunday. The U-14 squad also plays Calgary-based Internazionale SC at Simon Fraser University on Monday. In United States Soccer Development Academy (USSDA) play, the U-18 team beat De Anza Force U-17/18 3-2 in a thrilling match on Saturday, while the U-16 team finished with a 2-2 draw against De Anza Force U-15/16 in the later match.
