With his big saves and a booming voice, we all know what keeper David Ousted is about on the pitch. But what’s the Great Dane like away from the action? In the first installment of a new series, we sat down with Ousted to discuss embarrassing songs, treasured possessions, and more.
1. If you weren't a soccer player, what would you be?
I’d like to be a writer. Before I came to Vancouver, I was actually writing a book for the fun of it. I’ve just always enjoyed it.

Matthew McConaughey.
3. What’s the last thing you read?
The Big Short by Michael Lewis. It’s about the recession and how the whole subprime mortgage lending almost bankrupt the world.
4. What's the most embarrassing song on your iPod?
I have a lot of kids ones because of my kids, so there are some good ones. But I’d probably say that song that goes “dooo bop, ba ba doo bop ("MMMBop" by Hanson).
5. Do you have any superstitions?
No, I’m not a superstitious guy. I’m a big believer in just taking things as they come.
6. If you were stuck on a deserted island, which of your teammates would you bring?
I can only bring one? I’d bring

. He’s big and strong and I could eat him if I really had to.
- What is your most treasured possession?
I’ve got a letter from my mom written just a couple days before she died. I’ve always kept that in a safe in my house. We read it once in awhile. That’s definitely one of the most precious things to me.
8. What's your worst habit?
My wife will tell you that I’m horrible at cleaning. I hate cleaning up and I’m really bad at leaving stuff around.
9. When are you happiest?
I’m happiest when I’m with my family.
10. What's your greatest fear?
Not living my life to the fullest and having regrets at the end of my days.
