VANCOUVER, BC - Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced on Thursday that the club has re-signed forward Erik Hurtado through 2018 with options for 2019 and 2020.

- Tallied two goals and two assists in three 2016-17 Champions League appearances
- Five-month loan spell with Norwegian side Mjøndalen IF during the second half of 2015
- Fifth overall selection in the 2013 MLS SuperDraft from Santa Clara University
"Erik has made tremendous strides over his four years with the club," said Whitecaps FC head coach Carl Robinson. "His work ethic is second to none and he has a real willingness to learn, improve, and help the team however he can."
Hurtado, 26, is coming off his fourth season with Whitecaps FC, collecting four goals and four assists while starting 17 of his 31 appearances across all competitions. The 5-foot-10 attacker was instrumental in the 'Caps first-ever quarterfinal qualification in the CONCACAF Champions League, tallying two goals and two assists in his three matches in the group stage.
Selected fifth overall in the 2013 MLS SuperDraft out of Santa Clara University, Hurtado enjoyed a breakout season in his second year, recording six goals and three assists in 32 first-team appearances in 2014. He spent part of the following campaign on loan with Norwegian side Mjøndalen IF.
Overall, Hurtado has 10 goals and 10 assists in 91 appearances for Whitecaps FC. In addition, he has made five appearances for Whitecaps FC 2 in the USL, registering two assists.
The product of Beaverton, Oregon was named the West Coast Conference Player of the Year following his senior year at Santa Clara in 2012. He was a member of the United States U-18 men's national team and played in a pair of friendlies with the squad.
