He may just be the most interesting man in Major League Soccer.
In the latest installment of our 10 questions series, we pick the brain of centre back and MLS Player of the Week Pa-Modou Kah. We know he’s a globe-trotter who is fluent in eight different languages, we know he’s a prankster, and we know can score a wonder goal – but that doesn’t even begin to describe him.ÂÂÂ
1. If you weren’t a soccer player, what would you be?
I still have my degree in building engineering, so if I wasn’t a soccer player I would pursue that. My father said he didn’t bring me to Europe to ignore my education, so I got the degree in Norway over the course of six years when I was playing.
2. What’s the most embarrassing song on your iPod?
I’m not embarrassed about any of them!
- Who would play you in the film of your life?
That would be my uncle, Djimon Hounsou (pictured right). The guy who plays in Blood Diamond. I’m being honest. He’s actually my uncle!
4. What’s your guilty pleasure?
Probably the passion iced tea I drink with eight pumps of raspberry and eight pumps of sweetener.
5. Do you have any superstitions?
To be honest, not really. I always put everything on my right side first. That just happened naturally. I never really thought about it. But other than that not much.
6. If you were stuck on a deserted island, which one of your teammates would you bring?
I’d bring Robert Earnshaw. We can talk about anything from life, especially when it comes to soccer, and we’d never get bored. And I know we’d survive. Two old veterans like us, we’d definitely be able to survive.
7. What’s your most treasured possession?
I have a watch that was made for Muhammad Ali on his 70th birthday, with a book that comes with it and there are only 10,000 made. So I’m happy to have that. And I will gladly pass it on to my daughter.
- When are you happiest?
Better question: when am I sad? Never. I’m always happy, my friend. You have to enjoy life and live to the fullest. Waking up, seeing my wife and seeing my daughter, that always makes me happy. And coming to the locker room and seeing the boys, that makes me happy too. But overall, I’m just a happy guy.
9. What’s the last thing you read?
Right now I’m reading the book of Pep Guardiola. It’s a good read because I admire him and the way he coaches and I want to go into coaching when my career is done.
10. What’s your greatest accomplishment?
My daughter. My wife gave me a beautiful daughter and I’m very proud of her. So I’m grateful for my wife and I’m grateful for my baby.
