PROFILE
A versatile attacking player who developed through the Whitecaps FC Residency program in his youth, Sahil Sandhu was signed to Whitecaps FC 2 for the team's inaugural USL season.
UNITED SOCCER LEAGUE
2016: Sandhu started three of his 11 regular season appearances in his second USL season. 2015: Sandhu was a steady presence for Whitecaps FC 2, as he was one of only four WFC2 players to play at least 25 of the 28 total matches. He started the season as a striker before proving to be as effective in the backline.
UNITED SOCCER LEAGUE PREMIER DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE
2013: Sandhu played in six games for Victoria Highlanders FC, starting four times, and scoring once en route to helping Victoria win the West Conference. 2009: The Surrey, BC native played 11 matches for Whitecaps FC U-23, starting nine times. He scored his lone goal on June 13 against Spokane Spiders, a game in which he also assisted on two goals.
COLLEGE
2013: In his final season at Douglas College, Sandhu was named Week 3 Male Soccer Athlete of Week after scoring the 1-0 winner against Capilano, before scoring twice and assisting once in a 3-1 against Vancouver Island University. He was named a PACWEST First team All-Star at the end of the season. 2012: Sandhu was named PACWEST Player of the Year for a second time after scoring 15 goals during the season and was also named a CCAA All-Canadian and nominated for CCAA Player of the Year. 2010: In his first collegiate season, Sandhu scored 12 goals in 13 games, and was named a CCAA All-Canadian after being named PACWEST Player of the Year.
GERMANY
2009: Sandhu spent one season on loan from Whitecaps FC to German club Energie Cottbus, playing twice before being recalled by Whitecaps FC in 2010.
INTERNATIONAL
U-17: Sandhu was invited to camp on three occasions. U-15: Sandhu made his Canadian youth national team debut under head coach Sean Fleming in December 2006.
YOUTH/AMATEUR
Sandhu was part of the Whitecaps FC youth development program and won the 2004 USL Super Y-League North American Championship in Orlando, Florida, where he scored the winning goal in the final against Schulz Academy. In 2010, Sandhu won the USL U-20 Super Y-League Northwest title and league championship with Surrey FC's Y-League team, Revolution FC. He played the 2014-15 season for ICST Pegasus of the Vancouver Metro Soccer League and scored 12 goals, tying for the league lead.
PERSONAL
A graduate of Burnaby Central, Sandhu attended Douglas College for three years.
INTERESTING FACTS
Sandhu was teammates with current Whitecaps FC midfielder Russell Teibert during the 2009 USL PDL season. While a member of Victoria Highlanders FC, Sandhu was teammates with current Whitecaps FC defender and WFC2 teammate Brett Levis.
