'Caps United presented by ICBC helps students become leaders, both on and off the pitch.

The program combines soccer coaching and community-based education to equip students with the skills that are foundational for leadership.

Through 30 minute in-person sessions, our dedicated team of grassroots soccer coaches helps students develop physical literacy, sportsmanship, teamwork, respect for others, and appreciation for an active lifestyle.

The soccer clinics focus on core skill development, including ball control, passing, dribbling and shooting. Every student is equipped with soccer drills to practice at home, with family members encouraged to join.

A learning resource package (‘Caps Classroom Kit) supports classroom teachers to engage students in discussion on important community topics. The goal is to use Whitecaps FC and sport as a springboard into conversations that foster better personal and social understanding.

Each learning resource package contains:

  • 5-7 min videos of members of the club having open discussions about each learning topic.
  • A list of discussion questions and activities to help teachers facilitate a continual learning environment.
  • A list of additional resources that students can access in their communities (books, websites, programs, worksheets, etc).

The core community learning topics of focus are: Mental Health & Physical Wellness, Anti-Bullying, and Anti-Racism/Global Citizenship. Contents related to each learning topic will be aligned with BC School Curriculum guidelines.

ICBC's Support of 'Caps United

At ICBC, we believe that helping young people build safe habits early can have a lasting impact on our communities. That's why we're proud to be the first corporate sponsor of Vancouver Whitecaps FC's 'Caps United program.

'Caps United uses sport and education to help elementary school students develop confidence, leadership skills, teamwork, and respect. These values closely align with ICBC's commitment to helping build stronger, safer communities across British Columbia.

Through our support of the program, we hope to create meaningful opportunities for young people to learn, grow, and succeed, while also introducing age-appropriate road safety education that helps keep them safe as pedestrians, cyclists, and other active road users. Road safety is a shared responsibility, and helping children develop safe habits early can benefit them throughout their lives.
